osmosis

So, despite having been on and off the wagon in equal measures (that's an exaggeration, I've been on most of the time) I am happy and surprised to report the loss of yet another pound. That brings my total to 6, which has me pretty much right on schedule for "one pound a week." Hurray! xox, Susan

In other news, wifey has lost 8 lbs by frickin' osmosis. She eats what I buy, so she's pretty much got her personal Jenny Craig consultant doing the meal-planning, shopping, and cooking.

I'm jealous. Does it show much?

p.s. Elder Sister, you've lost TWELVE POUNDS?! That's incredible!!

Sunday Funnies, PLUS a weigh-in success!

UPDATE: I weighed in this morning, and to my delight I discovered that I've lost THREE more POUNDS! This brings the total to four pounds lost so far. I am, obviously, very pleased.

I have lots of other good, fun, entertaining, and inspiring stuff to blog about, but it will all have to wait; I've got big plans for the day, including organizing my craft closet, hanging the hammock on the porch, giving myself a mani/pedi, and coloring my hair. Yes, I am taking a personal day.

Check ya later, sweet potaters! : )

"Top 10 Weight Loss Tips"

For permanent weight loss - from http://www.thedietchannel.com/ :

  1. Exercise - 10 minutes 3x a day, 5 days out of 7 will do it.
  2. Strength training - Muscle burns more calories than fat. "In her book Strong Women Stay Slim, Miriam Nelson, a Tufts University researcher, showed that a group of women who followed a weight loss diet and did weight training exercises lost 44% more fat than those who only followed the diet." (That sounds promising!!)
  3. Keep a food/diet diary. (Elder Sister will never do this!!)
  4. Make health -  not weight - your motivation. (For me it's both..healthy and skinny sounds good!)
  5. Self awareness - know thyself. If you figure out why you overeat you may be able to stop doing it.
  6. Join a weight loss group for long-term support. (Do the 3 of us constitue a group?)
  7. Portion control - in other words, eat less. Duh.
  8. Lose weight slowly - "Strive for a weight loss of no more than 1-2 pounds per week. One pound of weight is equivalent to 3500 calories. By making small changes like eliminating 250 calories a day from food and expending 250 calories a day from exercise, you can lose one pound (of mostly fat) per week. You can calculate how much time you need to exercise to burn 250 calories by clicking here. You can calculate your caloric needs by clicking here, and then subtract 250 from that number."
  9. Eat slowly - otherwise your eating will outpace your brain's fullness sensor.
  10. East less fat - but don't make up those calories by eating more carbs. Double duh.
It's so easy to get fat, why is it so hard to get rid of it?

and then there were three!

Welcome aboard, Luna, the more the merrier!

I'm going to answer some of Elder Sister's burning questions here:
  1. When is the start date? We agreed to begin one week after ES's return from Scotland, so next Monday, 9 August 2010.
  2. How do I plan to make this happen? I have no idea!! I'll be exploring all my options and talking about it here, on this blog.
  3. I did purchase The 4 Day Diet book, and followed the plan for several weeks. I lost weight, but quickly tired of such a regimented diet.
SO - what do you two want to do with this? I'd rather we all provide input, and share ownership of the plan, and of this blog. Here are a few questions for each of you to consider:
  1. How much weight do you want to lose?
  2. Do you have a goal date?
  3. Instead of weight loss, would you prefer to count inches, or clothes sizes?
  4. Do we want to do weekly weigh-ins, and post the results here, OR would you rather we each just chart our individual progress on our tickers, OR both?
  5. What about photos? Anyone up for full body shots?
  6. Are either of you willing to do blog posts?
Can't wait to hear from you both!!

Susan
